How to Choose an AI Image Generator for a Real Brief

Editorial review: 7 October 2026. This is a practical editorial guide, with primary sources where relevant; it does not claim a hands-on benchmark.

Write a usable visual brief

Name the intended use, aspect ratio, subject, color palette and required empty space. A website hero needs room for headings; a product illustration needs a readable silhouette. A beautiful image that does not fit the layout is an unsuccessful result.

Use reference material only when you have permission to use it. Record which elements are essential and which are flexible. Avoid requesting a real person’s endorsement or a false depiction of a product in use.

Test control rather than one lucky result

Use the same brief on each candidate. Compare whether the tool follows composition, text constraints and subject count. Then request one focused revision while keeping the rest stable. This tests how much control you retain after the first generation.

Inspect faces, hands, edges, reflections and embedded text at the size you will publish. If the work is for a user interface, test the illustration behind actual content rather than judging it on a blank canvas.

Check terms and provenance

Commercial rights depend on the provider’s current terms, the plan and the rights in your inputs. Do not assume an output is free of trademark or copyright concerns because it was generated. Keep records of the brief, source permissions and relevant terms for a commercial project.

If a visual is an illustration, present it as an illustration. It should not imply a hands-on product test, real customer result or partnership. Logos should identify their actual owners rather than become invented badges.

Prepare the final file

Export at a suitable resolution and inspect transparency. Use a format supported by the destination. Compress a copy and compare the visible quality, file size and mobile rendering before replacing the source file.

The Image Resizer, Image Compressor and Image Converter process a local image in your browser. They help prepare the result; they do not create commercial rights or generate a new image.
